From Local Ink Manufacturer to Regional Industry Leader
Sithara Limited was established in 1964 by Sri Lankan entrepreneur and press tycoon Mr. Esmond Wickremesinghe to meet the demand for printing inks for local print publication companies in Sri Lanka.
Foundation
Sithara Limited was established by Mr. Esmond Wickremesinghe. In its initial years, the company concentrated on refining a small range of inks, including rotary news black and colored inks for newspaper printing, gravure inks for cellophane printing, and letterpress inks utilizing rubber seed oil.
Expansion & Modernization
With import liberalization in 1977, the company expanded its reach. In 1982, technology transfer agreements with Sun Chemicals brought Western expertise. By 1989, a new factory with Buhler TRM machines earned 'pioneer' status from the Ministry of Industries.
Warehouse
As part of continuous growth, Sithara Limited developed and upgraded its warehouse infrastructure to support increasing production demands. This improvement strengthened raw material handling, optimized finished goods storage, and enhanced overall supply chain efficiency.
Graphicart Division
Sithara Limited expanded its operations by introducing a Graphicart Division to support the pre-press requirements of the printing industry. This division was established to enhance in-house capabilities for producing high quality printing plates, ensuring better control over print accuracy, consistency, and production efficiency.
